Colombia 100 Pesos {1992-2012} front: Colombian coat of arms. On top of the shield is an Andean condor holding an olive crown, the condor symbolizes freedom. The national motto, Libertad y Orden is on a scroll. The national flag is draped on both sides of the shield. The shield is broken into 3 sections. In the lower portion is a depiction of ships, pointing to the maritime history of Colombia, namely to the Isthmus of Panama, which was part of Colombia until 1903. Nowadays it represents the Atlantic & Pacific ocean. The sails represent commerce with the rest of the world. In the middle section, the Phrygia cap is presented; this being a traditional symbol of liberty & freedom. The topmost section contains a pomegranate, a symbol of the Vice royalty of New Granada, in the middle flanked by two cornucopias or horns of plenty: the one at the right with golden and silver coins and the one at the left with tropical fruits. This portion represents the agricultural and mineral wealth of Colombian soil. polished Aluminum-bronze coin diameter: 23 mm {SLIGHTLY SMALLER THAN A USA 25 CENT QUARTER COIN} weight: 5.3 g
